The right channel on my mixing board has been wacky for a couple of months now. Whenever I turned it off for a while and then turned it back on, the right channel wouldn’t work. After leaving it on for a while and playing at loud volumes it would eventually come back.
I decided to never turn my mixing board off again.
This worked well until yesterday when the power company replaced three hydro poles outside. The power went off for an hour and a half and since it came back my mixing board has been much worse than before, cutting out randomly no matter what I do. That is what we call lame.
It would probably cost about $150 Canadian to get it repaired and I’d have to ship it to Montreal and the knobs are all wearing out too and bleah, and it would cost $500+ for a new one. Or I could go with one of these small Behringer Eurorack things (or any one of the other models, I’m not sure which ones right for me).
Or I don’t know what. I feel I am at a crossroads. A very stupid crossroads.

If you get a behringer, it will wear out even quicker. I am surprised the Mackie died.

It’s hard to beat a Mackie, that is unless you want to spend thousands of dollars. I have played live for many years and have only once had a Mackie go bad on me. I’ve done sound for alot of different bands also and have used alot of different boards including Behringers. Behringers are also nice boards but in my opinion I don’t believe the preamps are as good as what you get with the Mackies. Mackies are very reliable and road worthy. It’s hard to beat a Mackie. I am going to be purchasing one of their new Onyx1640 very soon. The preamps in this Mackie surpass anything Mackie has put out so far. Then throw in the Perkins EQ circuitry.I can’t wait to get this board. My personal favorite for suppling the power is Ashly. I have always used Ashly power amps. We set up to play a gig and we got there extra early so we could compare the top of the line Ashly verses Crown verses QSC. I am fortunate enough to have been doing this long enough that I am able to get my hands on these type items and check them out before I actually buy them. It’s too bad everyone didn’t have this option. We started out with our Ashley because that is what was already in the rack. Did our normal sound check and were ready to play. Then we went and pulled the Ashley and plugged in the monster of a Crown. Even after doing some adjusting we all felt that the Ashley had more warmth to it and the low end sounded tighter than the Crown. The QSC didn’t compare to either the Ashly or Crown. We use a Mackie1604 board with tons of Ashly power. We own 4 JBL SRX738 speakers. Alot of money but well worth the sound. We also have 4 JBL SRX728S(subs). We never get a chance to use all this stuff at once except for when we play outdoors. Then look out. I will always use Mackie boards, Ashly power amps, and JBL speakers.
