When you sell CDs through CD Baby they get accounted for by Soundscan. This means that if you sell enough, the industry will take notice and things will start happening for you automagically. So, is it really worth a dollar to sell the CD yourself and not have Soundscan be aware of the sale?

I hate the fact CD Baby has no competition, though. If they did, we'd start getting some real value.

I can say that when I was in Folk You Harder and we sold our CD through CDBaby, we got quite a few "unsolicited" sales. That may be because of the genre of music we were in, but I had a great experience with CDBaby. When Folk You Harder disbanded, I spoke with a rep from CDBaby who said they'd keep the FYH account active until I released a solo project, and could use the same account at no extra charge. Considering that was like two years ago, and the FYH account is still active, I think that's pretty sweet.

Thanks for the help Brad. I may go with CDBaby but I´ll probaby just opt for Paypal for now.
