I have been looking at MT, WordPress, and lots of others. I finally settled on b2evolution for my site (not yet launched). You might want to check it out before you make a final decsion.

Why are you in a hurry to replace Movable Type?

I haven’t studied their new license, but does it somehow affect old MT installations?

It’s not really the license thing that’s making me want to switch, it’s mostly just the increased speed and the features. Rebuilding the 500+ entries on here in MT takes forever and I need some sort of comment moderation junk.

I picked b2evolution because they had a cool architecture. It support hierarchial categories and a nice skins mechanism. The web posting interface links toa spell checker.

The downside of b2evolution is that you really have to be comfortable with PHP coding. They don’t do the funky tagging thing that MT does. Everything is just PHP calls, so you have to learn their library of calls and know something about PHP coding. They also seem to have a very small dev team with only a few people really doing all the work.

My experience with it so far has been very good. Very smooth insall and upgrades. The docs keep getting better and better.

The new MT license thing does not effect older installations, but if you’re someone who likes to put new gizmos and gadgets on your site, sticking with software that will never get upgraded sort of sucks.

I really enjoy WordPress and have to admit that it does require you to be somewhat comfortable with PHP. But it’s a wonderful tool and keeps getting better every time they update it.

If you’d like some help with converting your current tables layout to a CSS, I’d be happy to help you out. I’ll even throw it into a WordPress friendly format. Just hollar at me! :)

I don’t understand why everyone says you need to know PHP in order to use WP. I know almost nothing about PHP and I was able to customize it for my site. I mean, all have to do is copy and paste elements from the default template.

It’s no more complicated that using MT’s tempate system. There is no reason to stay with MovableType when a better solution is available for free and is still being imporved upon.
