Martin-d45I went looking for the most expensive new and non-limited edition guitar that I could find tonight. Looks like the winner is the CF Martin D-45 V Dreadnaught Vintage Series Acoustic Guitar with a list price of $9,599.00. Sam Ash generously offers a 25% discount however, so you can get it for the low low price of $7,199.99. It gets a pretty good rating on Harmony Central, but I think just spending that amount of money on a guitar would compel me to give it a 10.

If you’re willing to include limited editions, the Martin D100 Deluxe, signed by Martin Chairman Martin IV is a uh bargain at $96,000.

>La VeneziaUpdate: Looks like Eric was right and I was pretty far off. A guitar called La Venezia lists at $26,250 and the most expensive I’ve found it for is $21,000 here.

I have a feeling you’re pretty far off, here, Brad. Benedetto (which I believe is Fender-owned), makes acoustic-electric jazz archtops. According to their price list, their most expensive guitar, La Venezia, is $26,250. (List price, presumabely)

About that $100.000 guitar, its a martin D-100 Deluxe and limited for the 50 first guitars…

Bearing the first 50 sequential serial numbers following the millionth Martin guitar (1,000,001 to 1,000,050) the D-100 Deluxe – also a Dreadnought – draws inspiration from Larry Robinson’s unprecedented inlay work on the Martin 1,000,000th guitar. This guitar features many of that instrument’s Victorian and Baroque embellishments lavishly inlaid in select pearl on its back, pickguard, headplate, fingerboard and bridge. Herringbone pearl inlay encircles the top, and the rosette features the same herringbone pearl inlay, flanked by two pearl rings in select abalone. Even the neck and headstock feature borders inlaid in select pearl.

The D-100 Deluxe is crafted with Adirondack spruce and C.I.T.E.S. certified Brazilian rosewood, hand-selected specifically for this edition. Golden Era® appointments like scalloped 5/16″ Adirondack spruce top braces, a 1 3/4″ modified V neck with square, tapered headstock and diamond volute share the spotlight with unique touches like Waverly gold hand-engraved tuners with butterbean knobs, gold color frets and fossilized ivory bridge and end pins topped with green tourmaline dots in 14-karat gold settings. The nut and saddle are fashioned from fossilized ivory.

Each D-100 Deluxe guitar in the edition of 50 bears a custom printed interior label personally signed by Martin Chairman C.F. Martin IV and is numbered in sequence. In keeping with the instrument’s exalted place as the fanciest Martin model ever, the D-100 Deluxe will be presented in a special black five-ply case covered in genuine leather and fitted with a black crushed velour interior.

First Quality is proud to present serial #1,000,007. This guitar features a very rare “hand-selected” set of Quartersawn Brazilian Rosewood.

The D45 is pretty expensive, but it is the best acoustic guitar you can get. I have played one and, if you are a professional musician, it will pay you back 10 times that in value. If you are buying it for a kid you should be killed, but if your playing is good enough to demand that much guitar, it is worth it. It is like buying a Ferrari if you can only drive 55. If you are racing, you need the extra horses, though…

If I was going to spend $100,000 on a guitar, I would get theft insurance right away.

I am writing a screenplay, the object of desire is the most coveted guitar in the world. Which guitar do you think it might be? Who owns it? Price value not necessisarily the most important thing. Thanks for help.

a guitar signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Brian May, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Pete Townsend, Mark Knopfer, Ray Davis, Liam Gallagher, Ronnie Wood, Tony Iommi, Angus & Malcolm Young, Paul McCartney, Sting, Ritchie Blackmore, Def Leppard, and Bryan Adams, (goes weak at the knees thinking of all those solos) has generated $2.7m

Pablo Loco on The Most Expensive Guitar

The guitar Tom mentions, actually generated $3.7 m as royal family of Qatar bought it 1st for Tsunami relief fund & then donated the guitar back to the fund & was resold for $ 2.7m—Charity begins with an ‘Axe’ & ends up on the chopping block of peace, love,& locofication~

I own a few martins and I absolutely love them. I have a limited ’66 OOO which was my mothers and is now worth a pretty penny… I spent $4500 on a martin, which took my whole salary for a few months (I was a student). I would LOVE a D-100. If anyone has any spare…

However, I think for the most coveted of all guitars, in my mind anyway, you need something a little more obscure… Try looking at a REALLY rare Weissenborn. Probably not worth anywhere near as much… but then again, may well be priceless.

danimal on The Most Expensive Guitar

the used hendrix guitar is the single most valuable guitar besides the guitar that was signed by a bunch of artist for the tsunami relief. The tsunami relief guitar sold for 2.5 million and is signed by the stones, livnig memebers of floyd among many others. New guitars, I can’t recall the maker but if you look for hand made classical guitars out of south america and Europe, some list from 40,000 to 85,000 out of the box. Every inch is hand made and they only produce 40 a year or so.

The reviews of the really expensive guitars, especially the d-100 are ridiculous. The one serious review says that the owner practices two hours a week, and the other ones say they bought it as a starter guitar, or for a child that has never played. I think that its all crazy. you dont need a good guitar to be a good player. hell, i have a cort m200, but i play a good two hours a day, some of these people are insane…

some of u ppl are too stupid to know the difference between a custom stratocaster and an old, cheap as dirt replica. The difference in sound is COMPLETELY different! And the price of that 2.7mil guitar is now acually 2.8mil, the price of it is still going up and always will as long as it exists.

PS. Dylan i dont think its exactly practical to buy a Lamborghini, either, considering that the speed limits are nowhere near 300MPH.
