I bought a capo for under $2 that is probably the best I've ever used. I don't care for the clamp design of a lot of the higher priced models. It's the Kay Performance Plus Elastic Capo. It's on MusciansFriend for $1.95. It's an awesome value.

Speaking of capos, check out the 'third hand capo.' You have to see it to get it -- you can capo ANY combination of the strings with individual rubber-stopper thingies... I love mine, though I have yet to use it in a song..!

I tried all the fancy capos. But the twisty ones or the overly complicated ones took time on stage. And at open mic-esque things you really want something quick, so I have a Dunlop Trigger capo and it's fine. Very quick, and it can pop up on the headstock. But I think it's personal choice. I'd have to be pretty convinced to spend ~$50 on a capo.

The critical part seems to be if the capo evenly presses each string or not, and that will depend on its matching the curvature/width of the fretboard in question. I'm sure the better guitar shops have capos out that you can demo on your axe.

I've had decent luck with Kyser capos on my cheap Fender Gemini and Ovation 12-string (both acoustic). But I'm primarily a bass player, so what do I know? ;)

I got one.
They're really good.
Worth the money, you'll never need another. (unless you lose it!)
