Dark Room & JDarkRoom

I’ve been jealous of Write Room for the Mac for a while but now there are two Windows (or cross-platform) clones: Dark Room and JDarkRoom. They’re all stripped down full-screen text editors:

It’s sort of stupid that with all the amazing multitasking and features on the average desktop that a full-screen and nearly featureless text editor seems exciting and fresh. I think it reminds me of my days writing in Telemate. (Wow, there’s no Wikipedia page for Telemate.)

    That’s funny!

It reminds me of my dad’s old Apple II. Cutting edge in it’s day. I wish he still had it, it would be a relic these days–maybe eBay-able for some good $$$…

Oh how I wish I had never gotten rid of that old Atari 800 gear. 32K of pure power! Those ancient geeks really knew how to squeeze every last ounce out of their applications.

    Man, that takes me back…

TRaSh-80’s, early Apples, Commodore 64’s, Atari’s. I kinda miss those days. My parents thought I was nuts, always on the computer. Always tying up the phone lines (with my 300 baud modem) “hitting the boards” (that would be BBS systems for those who weren’t even born yet).

    Ah, the good old days…
