I love Ogg, which is better than Mp3 (Fraunhofer). But Flash lacks support for Ogg, so there's not (yet) a simple way to embed it on a webpage. Hope this will change one day...

OK, so we shouldn't use Vorbis because FLAC is lossless and who needs lossy codecs anyways? Please. Ogg Vorbis has been superior to MP3 bitrate-for-bitrate for years, has more flexible metadata than MP3, and is great for applications like streaming. The only reason I don't use it more is because of the lack of mainstream hardware support. I can only assume hardware manufacturers would rather pay MP3 usage royalties to questionable entities rather than spend a few R&D bucks to support an open, patent-free codec.

MP3s and CDs aren't going away. The question is: when will they become irrelevant?

kaddar: I've never noticed much of a difference between FLAC and a well-encoded, high-bitrate MP3, but I haven't paid much attention.

Silus: I signed up for Disc Revolt a while back, looked very nice. They weren't shipping their free cards to Canada though and I got lazy.

It's a cool idea, I'm big into the idea of simple tokens replacing CDs. My little Brad Sucks buttons have been my first stab at that.

Hey Brad... Ogg is a great start, glad you're on the wagon.

Have you checked-out Disk Revolt?

http://www.discrevolt.com/

Pretty cool concept... and is probably just up your alley.

I really like FLAC encoding, because it is lossless.

File sizes can be rather large though.
