Internet Radio Day of Silence

Peter Kirn has a good article on the Internet Radio Day of Silence, which is today. There’s a huge service-killing hike in the pipe for web radio royalties.

I want to care about this but I don’t listen to web radio, I’m not American, I think big music screwing themselves creates great opportunities for musicians like me, and I don’t think protesting will do much good if they’re determined to do it.

So I guess I’m a web radio dick, I’m sorry.

Hell yeah, brotha, I don’t have to worry about the RIAA and all that anyway. My station never went off the air.

Well put about the industry screwing themselves. Just like DRM etc. I hope it continues until they die. Last thing I want is for the industry to realize DRM/being anal is just hurting itself.

    My questions are -
what is fair scheme for royalties?
What is a fair process to determine that?
What if the answer, tells us that the current web broadcasting industry is built on a house of cards, how will the current web broadcasters react?

Hmm, the web radio people going out of business would hurt us too - Pandora currently plays my stuff, but if they go under they won’t be around to do so.
Even if they stopped playing major-label stuff, they’d still owe that crappy back royalties money.
