Brad, you are absolutely correct. If I am buying a digital audio file it will be either Vorbis or FLAC, preferably FLAC for archival purposes. I can always transcode it because it is lossless. Additionally, if (and more importantly when) a new and better format arises (read: patent free, open source, better quality:compression ratio) I can always switch to that and still have a lossless copy of the album.

Do you travel with your SG? It'd be a shame if it broke after all that work for the snazzy blue finish.

It's not costly, just a hassle to maintain. And I didn't expect OGG to sell as well as MP3 but it's really like 1%. FLAC even vastly outsells OGG, which makes me think that if you're an OGG fella and FLAC costs the same (which it does), you go for FLAC.

I'm not entirely surprised that Vorbis didn't sell as well as MP3 - there's a lot less brand recognition there, despite its superior quality:filesize ratio.

I don't mind buying FLAC and re-encoding provided it doesn't cost me more; how much time, energy and resources would selling Vorbis involve?

If you buy a shitty guitar 'on location' you should sign it and auction it off at the show.
