Nevermind anniversary

Seventeen years ago today Nirvana’s Nevermind was released. I’m re-watching the Classic Albums Nevermind episode:

It’s real interesting and worth a watch if you’re a recording nerd or a music fan.

Personally I don’t think the production on Nevermind holds up as well over the years as In Utero, but that’s me.

The only negative I can think of about Nevermind’s production is Howie Weinberg’s mastering on the original release. If you get a chance to hear Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab’s 1996 remaster, definitely check it out: I think it sounds incredibly modern for an album that was released… well, when Dallas was still on the air.

‘Course, that’s all IMO. I suppose I just prefer Andy Wallace’s clean and punchy sound to Steve Albini’s dense and roomy sound.

Pretty interesting. Taking key from that suggestion, I found “Classic Albums: Queen: A Night At The Opera” (somewhere on youtube - I’m too wasted to paste a link). Holy, shit. Talk about revolutionary. I’d shave an ounce off my left nut to get a hold of those vocal harmony source files.
I never realized how doubled Cobain’s vocals were either. I thought it funny how Butch Vig always made reference to what John lennon did to convince him to double the takes.

    17 years?

Wow… where did the time go?

I remember thinking, “This is it! THIS is the music I’ve been waiting for!” What I wanted to play since I picked up my first electric guitar!

It was here and then it was gone… just like that…
