Just got back from a vacation in Nova Scotia. Man, I really needed that. What a beautiful province, I ate so much chowder and so many mussels and looked at so much ocean. I also was really surprised at how much I loved the Alexander Graham Bell museum. Turns out I knew almost zero about him, what a rad dude with a rad wife.

I’m really excited about music and recording again. I wasn’t sure that’d ever happen. I’m going to start recording drums for new songs in the next few weeks — it’ll be my first shot at using a live kit and human drummer for Brad Sucks songs so I’m curious/nervous to see how it’ll go.

I’m heading back to XOXO in Portland in September this year. If you’re in town, let’s grab a drink. XOXO was really inspiring last year, it really nailed home for me that my independent Internet creator angst is not in any way special or unique to me.

I’ve been loving the latest Queens of the Stone Age record the new Freeman record (by Aaron Freeman from Ween.) What have you guys been listening to?

PS: Current plan is to update here more regularly. But I also post stupid stuff on Twitter and Facebook.

I’m glad you had such a positive experience in Nova Scotia! I will put it on my mental list of places to consider going :)

It’s also good to hear that you’re excited about recording once again, I look forward to any tracks you put out in the future and will always forgive the liveness/humanness of your drums :D

Thanks for the blog post. You rock.

How’s she goin’, boy?

(that’s my Nova Scotian patois)

Glad you had a good trip east. It’s nice out there.

What’ve I been listening to, you ask? I’m glad you did! I too really dig the last QotSA album. Others I’ve had in heavy rotation this month:

The War on Drugs’ “Lost in the Dream”. Possibly the most sincere Rock album I’ve heard in a long time. Gutsy 8 minute tracks. Love it.

Future Islands’ “Singles”. Not sure if it’s a cliché yet. Probably, but I don’t care, I still love it.

and I just discovered Savages’ “Silence Yourself” from last year. Holy fuck, this album smokes.

have fun gettin’ your record on!

I am very glad to hear you are reinvigorated. Not many people talk about the gut-wrenching realities of creative work, especially for the independent, and double-especially for the pioneers. I, for one, love the shit out of what you make, but even more, I respect the courage to dare to do things your own way. IMO, that is authentic art, and it is a rare and precious thing.

As far as what I am listening to, I am finding myself revisiting some older stuff this summer. For instance, I am still blown away by how great of an album White Pony was. Some older Radiohead has been amazing too, especially Fake Plastic Trees and I Might be Wrong. Lastly, Take My Time/Rifles by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club has a haunting beauty that sticks to me every time I hear it, and I just can’t help but sing along to Dirt Bag every time it comes up on Pandora. :)

P.S. The WTF with Josh Homme really added another layer of depth to my appreciation of their latest album.

screw Whitey.

Brad Sucks is my absolute favorite music artist as of now.

to drive that point home with proper force, it probably needs a lil’ more specificity…

the only music artists I have ever LOVED loved:

1. Aphex Twin (aka Afx aka Richard D. James)

2. Whitey

and now,..

3. Brad Sucks

please don’t ever stop making tracks. <3

Your crazy #1 fan,

Hey Brad! Can’t wait to hear the new music you’re working on. Real excited for some new songs. Been a fan for many years now. Ditto to the person above me, don’t ever stop making tracks. :)

Hearing Nova Scotia makes me think of trailer parks, but that is a good thing. As the first poster said, better put it on the mental list of places to visit, Canada is definitely on that list.

I was just now talking music with a friend and I recommended you. Had to check what’s going on. I first heard a sample of Borderline in a psy-set. I was intrigued by the song and the text and then I found you, which I am very happy for.

Btw, have you at times been able to live on your music? From what sources?
