I like being in press releases. Podcast Network Releases Indie Album by Brad Sucks:
TAMPA, Fla., April 18 /PRNewswire/ — Release of the indie album, “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing” by Brad Sucks, marks the debut of Slo-Monkey, the music label behind the Emergency Podcast System (http://www.emergencypodcastsystem.com). The quirky, witty album’s release is backed by a TV campaign on Former Vice President Al Gore’s cable network, Current TV. Current TV serves over 20 million households nationwide and has an energetic youth audience.
Smart lyrics and danceable tunes made indie band Brad Sucks an obvious choice for the Slo-Monkey label. Says music contract guy Lil’ Dawgg, “If we find ourselves singing the tunes around the office, we know we have a winner.”
Here’s the ad that’ll be (or is) running (.MOV). If you see it on TV, let me know. I like the idea that the girl in the video might have been paid to dance to my music.
Anyway they seem like nice dudes over there. It’s a non-exclusive deal and it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
I’ve been getting a lot of email about some remixes done by an Israeli group called Psycraft on their album Computech. They’ve done remixes of Borderline and Dirtbag and apparently have had a bit of success with it, appearing on the latest Raja Ram mix cd.
I’m behind on blogging. There’s an article on me in the new issue of Kill Your FM. They also did up a big graphic layout of my gear setup, which is pretty nifty.
The folks at Losing Ticket Productions have put together a film called “1 Spy, 2 Spy” for the 2005 National Film Challenge. I haven’t seen it, but it has a bunch of my songs in it apparently. And if you’re in St. Louis you can go see it. Here are the details:
What: The National Film Challenge St. Louis Showcase
When: 8:00 p.m., November 9, 2005
Where: Galleria 6 Cinemas (http://galleria6.stlouiscinemas.com/)
Admission: $6.00
I was on the show CTRL-ALT-ROCK on GameSHOUT radio yesterday. There’s supposed to be a Podcast of it around but I can’t find it in the podcast listing. They played a lot my songs and were quite nice and I managed to keep the lid on my nearly decade and a half obsession with Ultima 7.

The Magnatune article I was interviewed for is in the current issue of the Economist (which is subscription only, but you can read it in Magnatune’s press section.) It’s some great press for Magnatune and there’s also a real nice plug for me in the second paragraph:
You can legally listen, free of charge and with high sound quality, to full albums by any of the 200 or so artists who have signed to the label. (Your correspondent was immediately hooked by a song called “Making Me Nervous” by a one-man electro-pop band from Ottawa called Brad Sucks.)
Sweet! Can’t get in SPIN, but the Economist likes me. Hello bankers!
The article also goes on to say Magnatune’s goal is to focus on second-tier genres, which makes business sense as really, who wants to compete with the majors? But it’s kind of a downer for little old me in the Rock genre.
Hello to everyone coming in from Boing Boing. My server exploded under the weight of everyone trying to download my source files and remix album at once, but things seem better now.
I’ve had to take the remix album MP3 files offline temporarily and I’m trying running everything else through Coral.
If you can, please use Bittorrent to grab the remix album and source:
Here’s the I Don’t Know What I’m Doing Remixed torrent. (96 megs)
And here’s the I Don’t Know What I’m Doing Source torrent. (560+ megs)
Thanks!
- Bad Attraction (wOOdy mix)
- Dirtbag (Harris Cohen mix)
- I Think I Started a Trend (wOOdy PROmixx)
- Making Me Nervous (Dan Bishop mix)
- Sick as a Dog (teru mix)
- Time to Take Out The Trash (The Recycled Remix)
I’m sure there are more I’ve missed on CCMixter.
Also, holy crap, a drummer has been found. His name is Bruce, here’s a sample of him on his electronic kit rocking out to Look and Feel Years Younger:
I met with him this week and Rob and I are pretty excited about kicking it live.
Podcasts I’m told I’ve been played on recently:
Some other things:
- One of my songs is in “A Few Minutes With Them” (Windows Media / Quicktime) a short film that’s getting submitted to festivals. If you have any feedback on it, send it to comments@bullyfilms.com.
- One of my songs is also going to be in a Dutch snowboard movie being made by RELOAD. I went snowboarding last winter and broke my ass.
- Teru, a prolific remixer, has gotten a page of his Brad Sucks remixes up on New Music Canada. Check out the page here.
The many times delayed remix album is more dangerously near completion than ever before.
Last week I did an interview with The Economist of all magazines. But don’t worry, it wasn’t about my massive indie rock riches (which are both very massive and very real) — it was about Magnatune. Hopefully I don’t come off like too much of an ass in it and a lot of rich people with monocles buy my album.
An interview I did with Dave Slusher for his July 23rd Clambake podcast is online now.
