So I want to get into electronics. The Arduino looks interesting, almost like a “killer app” for a noob such as myself. I was considering getting something available here, like the starter kit.
Does anyone here have experience making things with the Arduino? Would you recommend it for one such as myself (I’ve never intentionally soldered anything in my life), or is it something to be tackled after I have a bit of experience? If you don’t recommend the Arduino, what WOULD you recommend for me to learn some of the basics?
Thanks in advance.

I’m actually just starting with the Arduino. I had it in my mind to try out some other kits that were more musician/MIDI-based but was talked into an Arduino because of the community and resources available.
So far it’s been dead simple. You shouldn’t actually need to solder anything until later on when you want to finalize something or make it portable. It’s all breadboarding and running little scripts to play around.
I’m having a bit of an issue with breadboarding right now (I’ve never done it before) but I think I have the wrong wire. I was looking at that kit today and it looks awesome. I likely would have bought that a couple weeks ago if I had seen it.

This looks really cool though. It looks like you can make instruments and such though. What exactly is it for?
