Hi Brad,

Just wondering if your albums will ever see release as vinyl records. I think now is the perfect time to exploit the young record collector / hipster market.

It will also provide great incentive for people who have already downloaded the mp3s to purchase a record from your store (kids these days love holding big, glossy LPs– there’s no denying it).

Cheers,

I mean, the sleeve covers are glossy, not the actual record. Shit’s cash, as the kids say.

Yeah I dunno, a lot of my friends are into vinyl but I can’t imagine buying any so it’s weird for me. Also I think it’s really expensive to press? And then hard to ship? And heavy to carry around to shows?

If there was enough demand so I wouldn’t lose money I’d do it for sure.

$0.90 per record if you order here!

Interesting. Well, I just did a quote for 100 of the most basic 12″ with custom jackets. It comes to: $1,767 USD which is $17.67 each. Then probably add $50-$100 shipping to get them to me.

I could maybe source the jackets out locally which might save some money (I don’t know if URP’s $901 quote is reasonable or not).

But still, total cost after packing materials and shipping would probably be around $30 and I might make a couple dollars on them if I’m lucky.

If I can get up to ordering 300 or 500 it’s a bit better ($6.60/each and $4.40/each respectively) but I have nooooooooo clue if I can sell that many.

This is a brilliant idea, Brad.

May I suggest that, as a possible alternative to 12″ LPs, you consider pressing 7″ singles? I think a 7″ would be an excellent accompaniment to your regular free mp3.

Perhaps you could instead focus on releasing singles rather than full-lengths? The 7″ would add a certain amount of anticipation to the release of each mp3. The B-side could be a sweet cover track or something, maybe even exclusive to the vinyl record.

Also, I’ve noticed that your forum seems a bit slower than it used to be. Do you think more frequent releases in the form of singles would help keep people around during the long waits between albums?

The 7″ idea is most interesting to me. I still wonder if they’d sell but it’d be neat to try.

As for the forums being slower, I think my website in general’s been suffering from a lack of activity on my part. I’ve been preoccupied getting ready for upcoming shows and planning a Brad Sucks project. I’m trying to get back to hammering out demos for the new record and hopefully I’ll have some stuff to talk about once the shows start actually happening.

The price really does get better with bigger quantities. This coupon for 12″ includes everything, down to 4-color jackets, and is only $3.78 a pop: http://www.urpressing.com/RegrindSpecial.php

The same package with 300 10″s it’s $5 per record:
