For those who are lamenting the cancellation of the greatest radio program this country(Canada)has ever produced, please be advised that I am uploading episodes for download on http://thepiratebay.org. I’m not very good at this, and can probably only do one or two episodes per day, and hopefully I am doing it correctly. I only have about 50 shows in total from the past few years, so please – if you have any shows that you have converted to MP3, please upload them. There is a good tutorial on how to do this here http://forum2.youceff.com/showthread.php?p=65604. |

That’s awesome. Brave New Waves was totally a force for good and it’s sad to see it go. I have two anecdotes to share about Brave New Waves: 1. I once won a Brave New Waves t-shirt in a contest to insult host Patti Schmidt. 2. I crashed my car into a deer during a Brave New Waves profile on Momus many years ago. |

I’ve been wondering for a week now – just what was your insult to Patti Schmidt? |

I can’t remember actually. It was a long paragraph rant. I think I called her a spoon-bender. It was all pretty joking and affectionate because I think she’s awesome. |

I will be eventually getting a cassette tape drive for my computer so I can record my old BNW tapes to my hard drive. I would gladly upload some of the old BNW programs once I get the drive. Here’s a random link to the drive I was references. I don’t want my tapes to die due to constant play like some of my old david wisdom tapes. |

That’s cool, let me know how that goes, I’d be interested in hearing some classic BNW episodes. |

I don’t know where you heard that, static, but that’s not the case at all. If it was true, this topic wouldn’t be here, I don’t think. But, I’d doubly love some older BNW shows, since I have heard much of the more recent ones, and the first time I ever listened to the show was around ’91 or ’92. If anybody’s willing to put up a show from that period, that would be so awesome. I remember one show that had Serge Gainsbourg and Chic in one set, and I thought, “this is the greatest thing EVER”… even though I had no idea who they were at the time being only 13, hehe. Seriously, if it’s possible, make it happen! Since March, I haven’t given a damn about CBC anymore, and it hurts me. |

I never got into BNW but would be eager to check out at a podcast if that rumour turns out to be true – in fact, I’m discovering all kinds of CBC radio goodness now that more and more of it is liberated from time slots via podcasting. I do have a bunch of .mp3s that I found on some P2P network of a Buck 65 set with no more information than being titled “Live on Brave New Waves”. If anyone wants them I could email them or something similar… |

I think I’ve got a Tricky Brave New Waves set on cassette somewhere. Padraic: it was a pretty great show. Sort of ridiculous in its eclecticism. I’d say it was ahead of its time because it would probably be the most popular podcast ever right now. I remember one episode where there was like a half hour long recording of music made with a squeaky wooden chair. When I was 19 and it was 3AM, that was pretty mind-blowing. |
