I love my Mac Mini Intel Solo. Never had a problem with it. It even runs stuff like GarageBand great. The only problem I have with it is the lack of a universal Flash. which should be fixed soon. If you say you have no problems with XP. though. it’s probably not worth it to get a Mac. I didn’t really have any problems with XP either. but I was just bored with it. and tired of crappy pre-made hardware. I’m too lazy to custom build a PC. |

Macs are the best!… At crashing, not playing computer games, and be owned by an evil bastard in a black turtle-neck. That’s how I feel about Apple. I’m never going to buy an Apple product, and actually use it. The only thing I’d do, is buy/recieve an iPod, and re-sell it on Ebay. Woo, monies! I haven’t had enough experience with Linux to judge it. Also, check out http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/ for good. Mac-abusing video gaming fun-ness. |

Can I just say… That I installed Ubuntu this weekend (thereby popping my Linux cherry), and it’s very easy to install, user-friendly, and sharp-looking. Obviously this won’t be a full replacement for XP or OS X, but if you’ve ever thought about trying Linux (but you’re worried you can’t install/run it because you’re not 1337), then your time has come. |

Ubuntu’s been kind to me so far. I give it thumbs up. Though Linux has hurt me many times in the past so I’m afraid to customize it at all. I saw some skin thing the other day to make it look like OS X that I was interested in but you had to install some crazy junk for it. |

I don’t mind Ubuntu’s stock interface. I think it’s pretty well-polished for something I get for free. Not unlike some music I could mention. Wiped, formatted, and re-installed XP this weekend (for the first time since I got the machine pre-loaded), and damn if it’s not running like a top now. If only it could always stay this way, instead of silting up with gunkware and whatnot. Oh well. |

I have used nearly every type of OS one can imagine, and even made my own way back in ’96, but frankly I think Mac OS X beats everything as far as simple usability and power. The UNIX base makes it extremely secure, and Apple was kind enough to include their own professional IDE (XCode) for free, so a decent enough programmer can sit down and crank out stuff that works with a lot less hassle than the average Windows app. (Linux geeks just write bash scripts, programs are for wimps ;-) ) I use Linux (Mandriva flavor) extensively for my work, and I like to think of it as a godsend as far as extensibility and innovation. If someone knows Linux, all the way to its penguinish core, they can do some absolutey wicked things with it, which is why most professional hackers use it exclusively. Windows in all its forms shows the end result of something becoming too widespread: everyone’s had their hand in it, and the OS has simply become a gargantuan elephant that does its best not to sit its fat ass on the user, but typically fails. For general purpose business usage, it does it’s job usally without a problem, but it can’t be pushed too hard because it doesn’t take much to break something. All three systems have their strengths and weaknesses, and I use them all on a daily basis. Most of my machines are either dual or tri-boot because as a web developer/application programmer I have to do an extensive amount of testing, but overall I’m pretty comfortable in any of them for most tasks. It’s just a matter of finding which OS suits whatever you’re trying to accomplish at the moment. |
