Brad

I’m looking for some more cover songs to play live. Any suggestions? We already play Godzilla, Let’s Dance / Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World and I Ran.

I’m thinking like a 45 minute set of Innagaddadavida but I don’t know how much the audience would like that.

Long songs, how about Freebird? :P

Otherwise, if you like playing rock, Green Day’s not bad…not sure how well their stuff would fit in with yours, though…but it’s a thought. You could consider some classical stuff if you’re up for the challenge, too. It’s tricky…really depends on what works, I guess…and it would help if I’d been to one of your shows!! (SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE: COME TO TORONTO! EVEN IF YOU’VE ALREADY BEEN, I CAME IN TOO LATE, SO COME AGAIN!!) ;)

Also, I’ve heard of this pretty cool band called Brad something…can’t remember the name exactly, but they’ve got some half-decent tunes I’m sure you could pull off quite well!

Dead Finks Don’t Talk by Brian Eno.

You can omit the squawky “oh lord” parts though. But otherwise that’s a solid tune.

Do some nice covers of some Led Zeppelin songs. Led Zeppelin is the definition of rock, any song you do by them would be a sure hit.

Tony

Yeah try some Led Zeppelin, that would rule.

We were playing Whole Lotta Love at the last rehearsal but my voice does not do what Robert Plant’s does (or did).

How about some Warren Zevon, Werewolves of London of course, Mr. Bad Example would be a good one too. Why not do your own take on Zep. I had a college professor that had a band and did a techno/dance version of “Whole Lotta’ Love” that was great.

Hallowed Be Thy Name – Iron Maiden (Yea, the voice thing, you can do it)

Train Train – Blackfoot (good)

Last Rose of Summer – Judas Priest (good, maybe)

Green Grass and High Tides – The Outlaws (great song)

Heir of the Dog – Nazareth (Perfect for you IMO)

Which Way are You Goin’ – Jim Croce (I’d love to here your take on this)

Boat on the River – Styx (O.K. this is just a freaky weird suggestion)

I’ve gotta second Project-D on this one; Brad Sucks doing Werewolves of London would just be some top-shelf stuff all around, no question.

Ghostbusters? Ghostbusters.

I can’t believe this didn’t occur to me earlier, but Brad could do serious justice to any song from Nevermind – Nirvana.

As far as Werewolves of London, no offense to any of the parties involved, (including the late great Warren Zevon), but I’m not sure if it’s the right showcase for Brad. If he does do it I would think there’d have to be quite a bit of work put into it, in which case that would be the truly interesting part. I’m sure he could do it and sitting in on that creative process would be nice!

Well, you could always do Mr. Bad Example by Zevon. How could you not want to sing lyrics like this:

I got a part-time job at my father’s carpet store
Laying tackless stripping, and housewives by the score
I loaded up their furniture, and took it to Spokane
And auctioned off every last naugahyde divan

It’s one of his lesser known, I think, but my favorite.

I really like Josh’s idea of Led Zeppelin. I know you said how your voices aren’t the same, but looking at the song Kashmir since I think the vocals are within what you’ve done already and the music more closely resembles what we find on “I don’t know what I’m doing” than any of their other songs. Also, I like the idea for the ghost busters. Nirvana is an option but doing a band like cake is too close to you chronologically and in genre, it might come off as more of a rip off than a cover, but that’s speaking just as a fan, not someone very educated in the music industry.

I have to say that the only Zevon I’ve ever owned is “Bad Day at Ballet School” and it’s been awhile since I gave that away, so I’m not familiar with Mr. Bad Example.

There are so many more…

Teenage Jail – The Eagles
Am I Going Insane – Black Sabbath
Changes – Black Sabbath
Ride On – AC/DC
