Im writing a short essay about music downloading. And I was wondering, are you guys aware about bands providing fans with their music for free before brad?

As in: “Brad Sucks wasn’t the first artist to do this?” Yes. I am aware of it.
And tbh Brad’s music is well-worth the money.

I think what he meant was more along the lines of:
Were there any bands before Brad Sucks to do this?
If so who?
please correct me if i’m wrong
and for the record
i don’t know for sure
but it depends on your definition
would making a tape and allowing it to be passed and copied on the same thing as this?

I’m sure there was free music before mine. I can’t think of any specific examples, but MP3.com was before me I think and there were lots of folks on there.
I think I was among the first to be loud about it being a choice, but who knows. It’s a big world.

I think MSI (Mindless Self Indulgence) was one of the first to do this.
I’ve read about it in an interview anyways so idk.

I can’t speak on before Brad Sucks was around, but it seems like *really* independent artists releasing stuff over the internet has been around for a while, I think Brad was one of the first vocal ones though.

I know it wasn’t downloading but The Grateful Dead allowed their concerts to be taped and copied/distributed. That always seemed like the beginning of the free music to the fans.

I’m not sure as far as free music goes (i.e. taping etc.), but I think Brad was one of the few artists that popularized making the source available as well.
