Here’s a demo of one of the songs I’ve been working on for my forum peeps: http://www.bradsucks.net/music/demos/Brad_Sucks_-_Gasoline_demo.mp3 |

This song makes me think that it’s probably okay that the Beta Band are no more because there are still people out there who can create the music they’d probably be making if they were still around. I’ve never owned a better travelling album than “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing” and ‘Gasoline’ will be as soothing on an airplane ride as any of the rest of them. Especially with the. now trademark. minute-long electronica instrumental outro. Strangely a lot of the songs that I like involve Brad singing about not being able to put up with me any more or seeing a doctor to get away from me. The ending makes me hungry for more. I want it to mix into some kind of ‘Making Me Nervous’ dance track. |

Good track. I agree with Kajun, ‘Gasoline’ is a great travelling song. it makes me feel like I want to go back out west again… It just kinda has that vibe to it. I’ll give my friends a listen to this, see their opinion, because this is one of your better slower songs. -matt |

Like the song, only criticism is the percussion. Sounds a bit too in your face and doesn’t really blend with the vocals and the guitar. Try running that track with a very slight echo/delay and maybe turn it down a notch or two. I think its the rim shot and the light symbal splash that take the drums out of the right element. |

I agree with aristotle_jones on the percussion but overall. ’tis very nice. Kind of reminiscent of Beck’s “Guess I’m Doing Fine”… which is a good thing in my book. (Perhaps the chords are similar or something.) Can’t wait to hear more! I’ll try. though… |

I think the percussion grew on me. I like it. anyhow, In regards to the ending, I don’t know about a dance track. but with a fine application of the chainsaw it seems to go into the original nicely. (Excuse the ogg. I didn’t have an MP3 encoder handy.) http://barstool.techtoucian.net/Brad_Sucks_-_Gasoline_demo_Fixing_My_Brain.ogg Edit: My web host died. link doesn’t work ATM. |

I like it. I humbly thought that it needs some more meat(elements, whatever) on it, and you could do something with that ending loop. Show off your voice! Wait. what’s this? Re-mix ending! Yes! Still, though. I was afraid for the song title, personally. Gasoline?! Brad Sucks covers Daddy Yankee, Gasoline. Oh no. |

I love the composition and the different elements sound nice. In my opinion, Brad, I think your voice and the acoustic are enough to carry this song. I have a bias toward stripped-down music. though. Have you ever considered some old blues covers? Your voice has such great resonance in the lower tones (re: There’s Something Wrong. You’re Not Going Anywhere. Sick As A Dog). I think doing an old Willie Dixon tune would be fantastic. Keep on rocking in the (apparently) free world! |

Actually, I dig the bit at the end. I say let’s have more of that! Spruce it up! Haha wtf do I know about music. Nothing, that’s what. Good song, though. “Gasoline -> Can’t be seen” is a bit of a silly rhyme. But hey, nothing wrong with that. It’s actually a good thing. And it’s still not as bad as “I’m a liar / set shit on fire”, so you’re good to go. :) But yeah. Sounds good. Keep rockin’ :D |

I really love this song. Don’t change the percussion. It sounds a lot like Beck’s Whiskeyclone Hotel City 1997 mixed with the drums from from Sweet Sunshine. One of my favorites. I like the bass a lot. But yeah, maybe during the chorus you could add another harmony. I don’t like the losing power effect at the end makes it sound like a novelty song. But yeah, I like it a lot. |

liam: Haha. listening to Mellow Gold much? To me, it actually sounds more like the percussion breakdown at the end of Steal My Body Home. You know, the one featuring the kazoo? Who am I kidding? Of course you know. Brad: I rather enjoy it, but I’m the same guy who said Fixin’ My Brain was my favourite of yer tracks. How much of the percussion is hand-played, if ye don’t mind me asking? |
