Wow. When the heck did THAT get added? It must have been pretty recently!

Thanks for the heads-up!

GTA IV seems to have been delayed until early 2008. So I’ve got a little time to save my pennies for a 360 and an HDTV.

I’m actually pretty happy it’s delayed. I was all wondering who I’d have to rob to get the cash together for the 360 and HDTV as well.

Look on the (even) bright(er) side; by Spring the 360 /might/ have a price cut, but you’ll /definitely/ be able to find HDTVs that are better priced than they are right now.
I’ll offer one heads-up about them though; I bought a 1080p capable Sony Bravia; I’m largely happy with it, but it only accepts 1920×1080@60hz input from the HDMI cable. It /should/ be able to accept that from composite or VGA, but Sony chose not to include capable ports. So make sure that whatever you buy supports full resolution from each possible port.

Oh weird. Well, I haven’t come close to buying an HDTV. I vaguely toyed with the idea when we bought the Wii but I figured I’d try it first and honestly Wii Sports and Super Paper Mario have been A-OK on my crappy 27″ CRTV.
I don’t actually watch very much TV so the only way they’re going to trick me into buying an HDTV is with video games and maybe if they somehow make stolen movies and TV higher quality.

That’s the thing, though: “stolen” TV shows are already available as HDTV downloads; you can find heaps of Veronica Mars and Heroes available in hi-def; just peek at scrapetorrent.com
The Wii would have been a bad reason to buy HDTV; it doesn’t support it except 480p (EDTV), and I recall it’s hard to find the composite video cable that supports it.
OTOH I played 360′s Dead Rising on my “crappy 27 inch” TV and it looked good enough, but when I got my Bravia and connected it to my 360, good grief Dead Rising looked so sweet I wanted to re-play it!

Showing off how little I seem to care about video quality, the only real reason I wanted an HDTV for the Wii was the larger screen for split-screen play. It’s a little hard to tell what’s going on in tennis on the 27″ with two people playing.

I dunno if you’ve got a 360, but I’ve been playing the hell out of Saints Row for the past few weeks. It’s got a slightly different vibe than GTA, but it’s a similar game with gameplay which is more evolved than I’d hoped. There is a CRAZY amount of side stuff to do in it, and nothing is artificially locked off from the beginning.
Give it a whirl if you’ve got the hardware.

I’m still without a 360. I was looking at HDTVs when I was in the states and they’re ridiculously cheap there so maybe I’ll try to sneak one back sometime and then I can justify a 360.

I’m trying not to think about all that HDTV and 360/PS3 stuff and that’ll probably work until GTA IV comes out in Holland and I’ll buy it all together for the need of playing GTA.
