Mr. Ballmer:

I very much doubt this will get passed on to you, although I hope whoever reads this before you will be brave enough to do so. I am 22 years old, and a young, bright passionate programmer with over a decade of experience in multiple languages and operating systems. I am the person that your company should be the most concerned with reaching, because in a decade or so I will be exactly where you are now, leading the next wave of the software revolution. However, not only am I no longer interested or passionate about your products, but I have steadily convinced many, many others to feel the same way.

Why? Because your company has become beholden to the almighty dollar. You are a billionaire, many times over, yet you push and prod for that next cent as if it’s the last thing you’ll ever do.
Your products have lagged miserably in innovation, security, and general usability. Vista has not changed that, but proven it further. Who cares about the new interface, when it’s bleeding buffer overruns? What security can there possibly be when any running process can self-elevate into superuser privileges with nothing more than a clever change of memory addresses?
You stifle and attack anything and anyone that poses any kind of threat to your bottom line, even if the threat comes from the customers you ostensibly try to serve. Perhaps the customer is tired of dealing with the product’s failings, and wishes to use an open source alternative? Foul! you cry! Intellectual property infringement!
Bullshit, and dammit how you know that’s all bullshit. Stop lying to score points with investors, and stop bluffing because you know you can’t compete with the motivation of thousands of unpaid volunteers that wish nothing more than to give back to mankind. Sounds kind of altruistic, eh? that’s because it is, and this attitude is so far from the greedy corporate mindset that you just can’t fathom it, so you attack it instead.
I’m tired of this crap, Steve, and I’m singling you out because you’re the vulgar mouthpiece that makes this whole thing run. Either change the mindset now, or become the next Enron within the next decade.

Your choice.

I’ve been wondering today what effect this whole Google Apps Premier thing is going to have on Microsoft.

Probably not as much as some people would think. as desktop-based software just has a huge advantage in flexibility still. Over time. however. things could get interesting.

Overall though (and I know it’s early to say this) Google overtaking Microsoft would just be one monopoly supplanting another. I’d rather see an open source solution any day.

One other thing. I’ve just had a terrible day when it comes to Microsoft. It seems that every little thing they are doing lately is hellbent on destroying everything about computing that makes it fun and innovative. because they’re always looking for some way to maximize “return on investments” instead of getting back to their core job of making software. I don’t care a whit if someone makes money off software. but I do care when they use that money to crush those who don’t. simply because they’re giving their software away. Steve Ballmer’s “Linux has hidden liability sheets” crap about Linux containing Microsoft’s intellectual property was the last straw. From now on. he has earned a nemesis. and I will do everything I can to rebel against the regime.

niku: actually when I converted the forums over it messed up commas and converted them to periods. Still slowly working on fixing them all.

Oh. How embarrassing.

( ) <— Please imagine that there is a small image showing my embarrassment here.

You also apparently lost the signup date info for all of your HARD CORE and OLD SKOOL forums members. Now how can we show our BradSucks street cred to all the August 11th, 2006 newbies?

Did I lose them in the move from Vanilla or the move from whatever the hell I was running before?

niku

Dunno. I just noticed it.
