In order to stop 0.001% of filesharers, the record companies give up 100% of their goodwill. Interesting theory.

Oink was the greatest one-stop shop to find new and interesting music and expose myself to different genres well outside of my comfort zone. I’m going to miss it dearly :(

Yeah, all the media coverage is pretty awful too. Claims that you could buy ratio, etc. All pretty gross.

So… How are the Oink replacements getting along? Anyone here on Waffles.fm or What.cd or anything else? Is there anything good out there?

I guess I’m not cool enough because I’m not on either of those sites. These days I use http://www.youtorrent.com to search and it works OK but it’s not really finding me decent obscure music. (I’ve been looking for spaghetti western soundtracks and haven’t found much.)

I’m on stmusic, which seems pretty decent for popular stuff. There really isn’t a lot of ‘obscure’ stuff on there yet (as in, the selection isn’t up to Oink’s standards), but it’s getting there. I found Rishloo on there a while ago (and instantly bought the CDs after one listen through, they’re THAT amazing), which is a small-time group from Seattle, so you can get lucky.
From what I hear, ST has more selection than What.cd, as my friend has a What.cd account and often asks me to get stuff on ST for him. Not sure about Waffles, but it wouldn’t surprise me if ST was on top of there too since ST had open registrations for a while so it likely has a much larger user base.

Hey brad, I have a waffles.fm Invite I can hook you up with. Lemme know your e-mail address if you don’t have on already. (Hotmail addresses don’t seem to work for some reason)

You are all the greatest, thank you.
