Whoah, that’s extremely trippy. Very nice.

Where’d you get that GNOME theme? (The only thing I really like out of Vista is the black taskbar style… very spiffy)

It’s the default theme of the Ubuntu Studio derivative of Ubuntu Linux.
Ubuntu Studio is the music/video/art edition of Ubuntu. Brad, you should check it out, Hydrogen and BEAST are terrifically fun programs :)

Huh, I’ve never heard of Ubuntu Studio, I’ll have to give it a shot. I read the other day that EnergyXT is coming out for Linux.
I wonder if Justin could make Reaper work under Linux.

Wow those screenshots for Ubuntu Studio sure look nice.

I love Ubuntu Studio. Besides already having pre-built packages for all of the great Linux creativity apps, the theme looks a lot better than the overblown browns and orange of vanilla Ubuntu.
Check out Virtualbox (http://www.virtualbox.org/) as well, open source virtualization is sweet :)

I never quite got the whole brown and orange thing. I guess it’s “earthy” but it’s not very sexy to me.
So how IS the audio on Ubuntu these days? Anything particularly usable? I don’t even know if it would support my sound card.

As with all things Linux, it’s hit or miss, depending on the friendliness of the hardware maker with the open source community. Creative Labs products are really moving along, however, but I wouldn’t recommend anything specifically for your setup as I don’t do much in the audio department. If you have a free partition to try Studio out in, I’d give it a shot (and delve a lot for info at http://www.ubuntuguide.org/) but don’t do anything that makes your already late album any later ;)

Yeah I already manage to kill a lot of time dinking around with software so probably trying a new OS should wait until later. I do really like Ubuntu, it’s on my media/web devel server in the basement and has been working great. I thought it had croaked on me a while back but it turned out it was the power supply gone wonky.

I generally shy away from Debian-based distros but I’ll give Ubuntu Studio a shot. (I’m a former and most likely future podcaster, need that audio editing y’know)
