Not because I’m cheap, but because I believe that the true artist has only passion for his work, not the $$$….here are two other artists with great music that give it away. But…when it’s all said and done, being so poor that you have to cut skittles with a knife for dinner doesn’t get you far. Anyway, please listen to these folks;

Timmy Curran – Great acoustic surfer type. Told everyone that he’s giving his 1st album away after opening for the Foo Fighters. “Moving On” is very Brad-like

Boltoph – A fellow Song Fight champion. He’s got some really great sounds. Bet you can’t isten to Ottoman just once.

Morning Rain – On-line collaboration from Boltoph. Who ever thought of that, huh? Go here as they document their recording process and hand out free demos and songs.

Hope you all enjoy.

One more:

Bomb the Music Industry! – A Ska/Punk side project. Their new album came out a few days ago, but my favorite is still “To Leave or Die in Long Island”. Very “DIY”, a couple songs are actually recorded with a Macbook’s built-in Mic.

Hit the Switch is a punk band that runs through a 12-song album in 28 minutes. You can download half of the album on their website(http://www.hittheswitch.net/records.htm), or you can download the entire album on eMusic.

Netlabels are a terrific source of free music. They’re great for giving exposure to artists who can then create a fanbase and make a living from their music. Like, erm, *thinks*…Brad! :)

I recently reviewed “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing” at my sporadically updated netlabel review site, Catching The Waves. I’d never have heard Brad’s album or visited this site if he hadn’t promoted it the way he has. Now I’m looking forward to his new album.

Anyway, have a look if you’d like to hear some more good free music and read some more bad prose:

P.S. I hope Brad and everyone else don’t mind me pimping my blog – I’m still a bit behind the times with this interwebulator thing. I just really like the idea of free music, Creative Commons licences, and the escape from music industry tyranny that comes courtesy of the internet. :-)

Going along with Catching the Waves; another free music blog site, with links to the artists/downloads:

You forgot Jamendo with more than 5000 artists (I think – there’s a statistic showing 8000 albums, but no statistic for artists) in all genres. Brad is there too – if it’s him that registered and uploaded music – and is one of the popular artists.

Synchronicity – my last post at Catching The Waves contains a self-penned (my blushes) haiku about Jamendo, and “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing” got the CTW treatment last week. Spooky…

I’ve mentioned the release of “Fake It” and the impending release of “Out Of It” in my crappy blog, “Catching The Waves”, should you be addicted to speech marks and desperate to read barely literate internet ramblings about free music.
