Hi everyone.
I own Epiphone E 310 same as Brad, and I hv question to all of you guys and for Brad especially.
I mean my guitar dives out of tune very fast and that’s biggest problem of this Epi.
What more, pickups suck, and body’s made of plywood.
Brad, and anyone who owns this guitar, can you answer me for this questions:
a) does your guitar getting out of tune so fast too? If yes did you changed tuners?
b) Did you changed pickups?
c) Is your guitar made of plywood too? You can easily check that by taking of black faceplate.

a) I have no tuning problems. I did take it to a local guitar guy once and got him to lower the action and adjust the neck, but that’s about it.
b) I changed pickups when I painted it, to some Golden Age ones: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Pickups:_Guitar,_electric/Golden_Age_Pickups.html
c) I sanded it down when I painted it (part 1 here) and I believe it was Ash, not plywood.

Looks like you just have a lot better one… Thanks :)
Can I ask you, what strings do you use?

There is a lot of variation in quality across Epiphones. Even within the same model level, what you get depends on where it was made and when it was made. I haven’t really come up with a good, reliable way to tell the difference between a good one and a bad one, so I try to stay out of it. Not that I need to be in the market for another guitar that I can’t play.
Conventional wisdom generally is play it first, let your ears decide before you buy something. If you don’t, you’re kinda screwing yourself. You can get a bad $2000 Les Paul too if you’re not careful. You’re not going to get plywood, but there are other problems you can get.

Ya, I’m not n00b, actually all that what you said is nothing new fore me, even you’ve made some mistakes… Let’s see… if you’re talking ’bout Epiphone factories, there are two of them. First is in China, and second one in Czech Republic, closed since few years, and guitars made there are really brilliant. Oh and some hollow bodies and other hi level guitars were made in Nashville too. It doesn’t depend on factory, just material. Brad have some older, maybe even Czech made guitar.

I just use some cheap $10 diMarzios. Light gauge I think (I’m a baby.)

I highly recommend you test this ones: Ernie Ball Super Slinkys. ‘Super’ means .009 – .042, in other way light gauge. There’s just no compare to this ones :). Ah and they’re cheap too, 5 – 10 $ i think

I haven’t played DiMarzios, I play D’addario XLs. Cheap $6 pack of 10-46 strings that I have no problems with. I can’t use 9s, because the high E breaks when I play too violently (which I often do).
