Mmm…I was just wondering (this is more of a more direct question towards Brad. the great man himself) how do you go about making up new songs? Do you like come up with the lyrics first and then try out different chords etc. Basically what is the process you use to come up with your great music? Also, how long does it take to come up with?

It’s different every time, but usually it’s music first and then lyrics. I write songs pretty quick with goofy lyrics I make up off the top of my head, but writing lyrics takes forever. Sometimes weeks or months, little bits at a time.
Somewhere in there I record and layer stuff on top of my basic song structure.
Probably it averages out to a week or two of solid effort spread out over months for a song, though there are exceptions (both longer and shorter).

I write songs, and I think most of them turn out well. But I am totally inept at writing lyrics, and solos. Only two things.

Im thinking about writing, but i find it hard to find anything reasonablly good sounding. I’ve made a few songs in the past but then when I look at them and listen to it…I realize it’s just not good at all.

Well, you have to start somewhere. I’m not happy with most of my stuff when I look back on it, but it’s better than doing no music at all.
