Hey, I was just wondering what programs Brad uses for synth effects? Are they primarily VST instruments hooked up to MIDI controllers? If so, can anybody recommend any decent ones (preferably free)? Oh, and if anybody knows of a good VST piano instrument, please let me know.
Thanks!

Well for a lot of effects like Synths and anyhting else FL Studio is amazing for me, and it has a good Piano as well, though you have to get it illegally if you dont wanna pay….not to hard to get it but i dont wanna play devils advocate here so if you want to get it ill tell you but i am going to leave it alone for now

I use VSTis. A lot of my synth stuff was done on the computer keyboard. Decent piano’s pretty hard to find without going to a full-blow sampler like Kontakt, etc.
I like a lot of the simpler VSTis and there are lots of good free ones:
I used Triangle I on a lot of my earlier stuff like Making Me Nervous: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/128.html
The most recent free VSTi I’ve been digging is MinimogueVA: http://home.no/gunnare/ which is a clone of the Minimoog.
Kvraudio is the best resource for plugin rankings. They have a good top rankings page here: http://www.kvraudio.com/plugin-ranks.php

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I’ll be sure to check those out. And this might sound stupid, but are there any specific sites/books I should check out to help me make some sense of the synth? My gut tells me that hours of experimentation/aimless Googling is the way to go, but I don’t want to miss out on any useful resources if anybody knows of any.
