Well this kind of came out of left field for me, but I have been playing a lot of Culdcept Saga for the last couple of weeks. It’s kind of like “Monopoly: The Gathering,” if that makes any sense. It’s a turn-based card-collecting-and-combat game crossed with dice-rolling (for movement, not for stats) and also territory-management. I downloaded the demo on Xbox Live one day while bored and I was hooked after the first battle. I never in a million years would have suspected I would like something like this but there it is. I’ve been playing and strategizing constantly for like three weeks. |

Also during play against the CPU I often find myself talking like a ten-year-old. “No way… no way you can do it… don’t even- NO WAY! Why even try? You’re not getting any Support Bonus, and you’re going up against my suited Amoeba on a level 2- Uh-oh. Oh no. Merit Blade my ass! More like… like… CHEAT BLADE! …Well damn.” But it’s fun stuff. |

Huh, I’ve never been able to get into any turn-based card-collecting thangs. Feels too much like work. Who takes turns anymore? Not me. I’ve been playing Team Fortress 2 on the PC with a group from Metafilter. Very fun, though I expect I will be very busy with GTA 4 next week. |

Yeah, I might even do the old ‘midnight line’ wait for GTA. Maybe. The last one was just a hell of a thing. |

Apparantely, I’m the only person who hasn’t played GTA IV. It’s gotten much more polarized reviews than San Andreas, which I find incredible. By the way, Brad, I sent you a ping on Xbox Live (FredrickNielson). |

A score of 98 on MetaCritic for both consoles isn’t polarized. |

Darg: I barely have time to get on there lately but will add you back when I do. I’ve been busy playing Team Fortress 2 on the PC when I do get time. |

Serious xbox 360 vs ps3 question? First off, i don’t want people saying xbox 360/ps3 rules or stuff like that. on Sunday, the xbox 360 20gb will go down to $300, and so I’m thinking of getting one. iI’m still torn bet. a 360 and a ps3. hardware-wise, 360 is still a better console. yes, the ps3 has a more powerful engine, but that doesn’t mean it has the better graphics, etc. remember the original xbox vs ps2? xbox is superior before, but ps2 games still look awesome. and i know that 360 has a smarter anti-aliasing back buffer techniques, although ps3 has the cell broadband engine. also, I’m considering the game library. 360 has a solid game library. but as you all know, xbox is entering its 3rd year. that means sooner or later, there will be a new xbox. and ps3, although a total bum on its 1st year, is a pretty new console. that means the ps3 will not likely be replaced in the next 2-3 years. ps3 also has strong titles, but for me, games are still few. I’d really only look at the library of games at this point. The only exclusively PS3 games I can think of that I’d want to play are Little Big Planet and Uncharted 2. And I have no interest in a Blu Ray player or I’d be talking myself into one that way. |

All my friends are dropping their Xbox LIVE subscriptions and getting PS3s. It is scary to me. I don’t know if I’ll join them; I don’t really game much anymore, and when I do I prefer the Nintendo DS. |

I never managed to get into playing online so I canceled my Live subscription and modded the 360. I think the controller pisses me off so I never feel like I’m doing well online. Also: no friends. I’m playing Mother 3 emulated on the PC right now and it’s more fun than a lot of the Xbox games I’ve tried playing lately. |

Online can be rough. I played Halo 3 online against random players, but it was just a bunch of children shrieking at each other. I played Left 4 Dead (the first one) with friends for a couple of weeks but after we had played all four maps several times each it started feeling kind of forced. I guess I’m not an online gaming guy. Weirdly though I like the idea of it; it’s very futuristic to turn on your console from your controller and have it instantly match you with players from around the hemisphere who are approximately at your skill level. It makes me think back to spending half an hour trying to direct-dial my friend’s modem across town so we could play half a round of Warcraft II. |
